The Abilene Southwest Rotary Club is currently organizing a Rotaract Club for Abilene. Jama Cadle, the Chairperson of the Partner's in Service Committee held an Interest Meeting and scheduled an Organizational meeting for March 4, 2004. Fifteen potential members have expressed a desire to be charter members of the Abilene Rotaract Club. They are:
Abilene Rotaract Club Organizational Meeting Minutes for 3/4/04
The Organizational meeting of the Rotaract Club of Abilene, Texas of fifteen charter members was held on March 4, 2004 at 8 p.m. in the Abilene Christian University Alumni Relations house. Nine of the 15 were present. Jama Cadle, Chairperson of the partner's in Service Committee, welcomed everyone and started the meeting with introductions and an icebreaker. Will Speight, executive secretary of the Abilene Southwest Rotary Club, facilitated most of the evening. Jim Aneff, District Governor elect, and Rocky Whitley, fellow Rotarians, were also in attendance. Will Speight explained that it was necessary to adopt a constitution and by-laws and also to elect a slate of officers for the new club. He explained the standard constitution and by-laws of Rotaract with changes suggested by the guiding committee of the club. On a motion by Jennifer Ellison and seconded by Kostya Britcov, the suggested constitution and by-laws were adopted by a standing vote. Jama Cadle requested nominations of officers. Charter members, Tyler Sheldon and Constantin Britcov were both interested in running for president. After voting by ballot, Constantin Britcov was chosen as president. Jama made a motion that this slate of officers be elected and Will Speight moved that the nominations cease and that the proposed slate of officers be elected by acclimation. This was seconded and carried. The following slate of officers were then elected by standing vote - President – Constantin Britcov Secretary – Alexandra Foster Treasurer – Ash Wright Director – John Garrett Director – Jennifer Ellison Director – Lesley Ouyo Future meetings were discussed and it was decided upon by the majority that Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. would work best. the next meeting would be held on March 18 with the location to be determined by the president. The induction ceremony is slated for Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m. in the elks Building, Ballroom.
